The Process of a Print
My capstone project is the process of carving and printing. Starting out with the original drawing I have in my sketchbook to having a print.

| Advice | Don’t procrastinate!!! That was the biggest struggle for me was actually sitting down and doing the work. Also my capstone ended up changing multiple times and that’s okay. Not everything will work and all you can really do is try something else. |

How It Began
Originally, my capstone started out with expanding my skill set with different kinds of printmaking to expand my portfolio. I had planned on doing three linoleum prints, three etchings, and printing on textile with soft blocks. The linoleum and the etching pieces were going to be a series of three, all relating to a similar theme. The linoleum would be my own drawings of girls I’ve done on the past on a much larger scale, the etchings would have been inspired by the overseas odyssey trip to Europe. The soft block printing would be to making curtains, bags, and t-shirts. At the capstone showcase I also planned on selling my prints.
How It Changed
Unfortunately my idea for the etchings went out the window as the trip was postponed. Also, etching is a difficult type of printmaking that requires the copper plate to be dipped in acid. Without my own studio, doing these would prove impossible. I was able to finish one of the big linoleum plates and was able to print at my house; however, without the third piece of linoleum and the second unfinished, I was only able to print one by the deadline. As for the soft blocks, they were on a Blick order and I wasn’t able to get it until late last week. Without the supplies to complete all of the projects I had planned I decided documenting the process of printing the one I have finished.
Reflection
Like everything in the world right now, life is unpredictable. Things don't go as planned and that’s very true with art as well. Learning how to adapt to how life is currently and finishing out my senior year has had it difficulties, but like with anything you can’t give up and quit. Printmaking is difficult and frustrating at times and finishing even just the one plate was more difficult that anything I’ve ever carved. However, I’ve learned that I can push myself to finish and to create the things I live even if it seems impossible.
